Which are the best casino themed books?
Oh poor me, I have to write about two of my passions: playing casino games and reading good books. Oh poor me, I have to write about what I love and do for a living! Sorry that I had to start this post by bragging, but sometimes I just can’t get enough of saying out loud how much I love my job.
So the three best casino themed books, hah? Ok, well I’ve got’em and I’ve read’em! And better yet, I get to decide and choose my own favorite three. Mind you, I’m not going to place them in order of most liked to least liked. They’re just my favorite three!
You Want WHAT?? – by Mariann Mohos
This awesome and fun book is a collection of stories that immersed me inside Las Vegas and the thousands of people from all over the world that arrive in it on a 24/7 basis. Believe me, you won’t stop cracking up at the weird and uncomfortable situations and conversations that guests request from concierges. However, there are also parts of the book that will shake you due to very personal experiences that these masters of service have to deal with. The way that Mohos created this book was by interviewing many concierges from the top hotels.
In doing some research about the book, I found that one concierge who read it said that “As a Las Vegas concierge, reading these stories makes me smile, laugh, and sometimes cry. I thoroughly enjoyed the process of collecting them, and I hope you love reading them. This is the perfect gift for friends and family who love Vegas, or for someone considering vacationing there. Order today and take a journey through the concierge’s life in Vegas “
Casino Royale – by Ian Flemings
You knew that this book had to be on my list, right? I mean, it’s the baby that started it all: The James Bond saga. The hero. The adventure. In case you didn’t see the movie, this adventure-packed book narrates the trip of Bond to a French casino in Royale-les-Eaux and his goal to beat a Russian agent at the baccarat table. The whole movie revolves around the Baccarat game and the luxurious casino world. I mean, if you love casinos and the gambling world, this book is a must.
Most important recommendation about this book: read it before you watch the movie if possible. It is way better and if you watch the movie first, some of the most thrilling parts might not be as awesome as the surprise element might fade.
The Gambler – by Fyodor Dostoevsky
This one is one of my favorites of all time, because it mixes romance with gambling. It might be described as a “chick story” by some of you, but I truly love it. The book tells the story of Alexei, who’s working as a tutor for a rich general in Russia and his love for a girl named Polina. She is addicted to the roulette after winning big and she ends up betting all of her money and losing it all. Then, Alexei gambles and wins a good amount in the casino and wishes to pay the debts of her beloved and son on. I won’t spoil the story by ending it for you. However, the real turning point of this story is that the author needs to have the story published in order to pay his gambling debts, since he’s addicted to roulette.
